MUMBAI, India and NEW YORK, June 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Dynamic new player Maurya Entertainment is making its official debut in Indian cinema with the much-anticipated mystery-comedy Detective Sherdil, starring global sensation Diljit Dosanjh in a never-before-seen avatar. The film premieres June 20 exclusively on ZEE5.
Detective Sherdil is directed by Ravi Chhabriya and produced by Manmeet Singh (also widely known as Prem Jyotish), Rohini Singh, Ali Abbas Zafar, and Himanshu Mehra, with Maurya Entertainment leading the production. The project marks the company’s first entry into the Indian film industry after making waves in Hollywood through its U.S.-based parent company, Astro Lion Pictures.
Astro Lion Pictures was founded by Rohini Singh, Manmeet Singh, and Paramdeep Singh (also the co-founder of music streaming giant JioSaavn). The banner has quickly established itself as a creative force, with recent titles such as Gunslingers starring Nicolas Cage, and Tow, starring Rose Byrne, Demi Lovato, & Octavia Spencer, premiering at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival on June 7th 2025.

The story follows Dosanjh as an eccentric detective assigned to crack an extraordinary case full of twists, secrets, and wildly entertaining suspects. Shot in Budapest, the film also stars Diana Penty, Boman Irani, Ratna Pathak Shah, Chunky Panday, Banita Sandhu, and Sumeet Vyas.
