The month of May exceeds 23,000 sales of electrified vehicles

Sales grow 134% in May, accumulating 18% of the total market of the month.

Madrid, June 2, 2025.- Sales of electrified vehicles (electric and plug-in hybrids, comprising cars, quadricycles, commercial and industrial vehicles and buses) achieve a strong growth of 133.7% in May, with 23,558 units, which accounts for 17.65% of the total market. With this figure, the highest historical sales record is reached in a month. In the accumulated of the year, a total of 83,981 sales, 71.1% more than in 2024 and with 14.45% of the market have been added.

As for the registration of alternative vehicles (electrified, hybrid and gas), they increase 60.2% in the month, with 75,211 units sold and represent 56.24% of the market. In the total of the year, they accumulate 317,180 sales, 70.7% more than the previous year.

Electric vehicles – zero label

Sales of pure electric vehicles increased 91.1% in May, with 9,914 units registered. It represents 7.43% of the market share in the month. In the whole of the year, the sales of these vehicles total 39,618 units, 70.8% more than in the same period of the previous year. The accumulated of the year quota is 6.82%

Plugable hybrid vehicles – zero label

Sales of plug -in hybrid vehicles grew 179% during May and reach 13,644 units registered. It represents 10.22% of the market share. In the whole of the year, the sales of these vehicles total 44,363 units, 71.4% more than in the same period of the previous year. The quota of the accumulated of the year is 7.63%.

Hybrid vehicles – Eco Tag

Sales of non -plug -in hybrid vehicles increase 30.8% in May, and reach 45,059 units enrolled in this month. It represents 33.75% of the market share in May. In the accumulated of the year, the sales of these vehicles accumulate 207,848 units, 34.1% more than in the same period of the previous year. The quota of the total of the year is 35.76%.

GAS – ECO LABEL VEHICLES

Sales of gas vehicles grew by 173.2% in May with 6,594 units registered representing 4.94% of the market share in the month. In the whole of the year, the sales of these vehicles accumulate 25,351 units, 83.5% more than in the same period of the previous year. The quota of the accumulated of the year is 4.36%.

Touring market

The registrations of electrified, hybrid and gas cars increase their sales by 60.7% compared to the same month of the previous year, until 73,321 units delivered. In the fifth month, with 65% of the total market, these types of vehicles are established as the first purchase options. In the total of the year, 46.1% grow with 309,621 units sold and 63.1% of the total market.  

As for the electrified tourism market, in May they achieve an outstanding milestone, representing one in five sales in the total market of the month. Specifically, 21,861 units have been sold, increasing 138.3%, to reach 19.4% of the total market of the month, about 10 percentage points more than the same month of 2024. Pure electric (BEV) grow 104.7% to 8,965 units in the month, just like plug -in hybrids (PHEV) that increase their sales by 169.9% and 12,896 units. In the total of the year, sales of electrified cars total 77,562 units, 71.8% more than the previous year and 15.81% of the general market.
