MIAMI, June 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Fleet Feet Chicago has emerged as a sustainability champion through its ongoing partnership with Sneaker Impact, demonstrating what’s possible when environmental values are fully integrated into a retail experience. With dedicated sneaker recycling branded boxes in all nine locations—Old Town, Lakeview, Lincoln Square, South Loop, Algonquin, Deerfield, Elmhurst, Oak Park, and Rockford—Fleet Feet customers can now easily recycle their used sneakers and shop for new ones in a single visit.
Since the partnership began, Fleet Feet Chicago has collected over 49,878 pounds of sneakers, including 29,658 pairs of gently worn sneakers, 4,855 mixed or casual pairs, and 4,367 end-of-life pairs. These efforts have diverted an estimated 372,632 kilograms of CO₂e from landfills—making a measurable and lasting environmental impact.
“This isn’t just a partnership—it’s a shared mission,” said Maggie Echenique, Director of Partnerships at Sneaker Impact. “Fleet Feet Chicago has embraced sneaker recycling at every level of their organization. From store staff to their distribution center, the entire team is committed to reducing waste and empowering their customers to take part in a more sustainable future.”
The convenience of in-store recycling allows customers to make responsible choices without disrupting their routines. As soon as they purchase a new pair of sneakers, they can give their old ones a second life—whether through redistribution to underserved communities or sustainable processing for materials.
Sneaker Impact, based in Miami, specializes in collecting, sorting, and repurposing used footwear to extend its life and reduce landfill waste globally. The collaboration with Fleet Feet Chicago stands out as a model of what true, organization-wide sustainability looks like in action.
“At Fleet Feet Chicago, we’ve always believed that running changes everything—not just lives, but communities and the world around us. Our partnership with Sneaker Impact brings that belief full circle, giving our customers a simple, powerful way to reduce waste and create positive environmental change—one recycled pair at a time.” — Dave Zimmer, Owner of Fleet Feet Chicago.
