@Toyota: Toyota Tsusho to Commence Commercial Operations at Africa’s Largest 654 MW Wind Farm in Egypt

2025-07-02

Toyota Tsusho Corporation (“Toyota Tsusho”) announced today that the Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II, which the company has been constructing since March 2023 in the Arab Republic of Egypt (“Egypt”) with its group company Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation (“Eurus Energy”) , has commenced commercial operation on June 30, 2025.

The Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II, located in the Gulf of El Zayt along the banks of the Gulf of Suez, is the largest wind farm in Africa boasting a power generation capacity of 654 MW. It consists of a total of 104 units, including 20 wind turbines with a capacity of 7.5 MW each, the largest onshore wind turbine in the world.

The electricity generated will be equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of approximately 1.1 million Egyptian households, reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 1.45 million tons, and will be sold to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company for 25 years.

The Toyota Tsusho Group already operates the Gulf of Suez Wind Farm I (power generation capacity of 262.5 MW; commercial operation commenced in October 2019) in the same area, and the Gulf of Suez Wind Farm II will be its second wind farm to be operated in Africa.

The Egyptian government has set a target of increasing the ratio of renewable energy generation to 42% of total power generation by 2030 . Toyota Tsusho will contribute to the expansion of renewable energy sources and economic development in Egypt through the operation of both wind farms, which have a combined capacity of 916.5 MW.

The Toyota Tsusho Group remains dedicated to contribute to solving social issues and economic growth in Africa under the key message, “for the future children of Africa,” at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) to be held in Yokohama this summer.
