Thanks to his third victory of the season in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup one-make series, Proton Huber Competition’s Robert de Haan reclaimed the championship lead at the halfway mark. Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti crossed the line in fourth and now holds second overall. While Flynt Schuring failed to finish this time, he retains third in the championship.
De Haan, who had qualified second, made the decisive move just a few hundred metres into the race, passing polesitter van Eijndhoven on the outside through the Grundig hairpin. ‟I took a risk choosing the outside line, but it gave me the better traction on the exit,” said the 19-year-old. ‟After that, I just had to manage my tyres carefully.”
Van Eijndhoven was unable to match the pace of the race leader. Instead, he spent the entire 37-lap sprint fending off his GP Elite teammate, Kas Haverkort. ‟No excuses, I lost the race at the start. Robert outsmarted me with a clean move. Credit to him,” said van Eijndhoven, showing true sportsmanship. ‟My start wasn’t ideal either,” Haverkort admitted. ‟But it’s a great result for the team. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the coming races.”
Porsche Junior Alessandro Ghiretti crossed the line behind Haverkort. The Frenchman from Schumacher CLRT had taken the points lead after Saturday’s race at the Norisring but had to hand it back to de Haan on Sunday. ‟This is my first season in the Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland, and to be honest, I’m quite happy to be second at the halfway point,” said the 23-year-old. Fellow Porsche Junior Theo Oeverhaus (Bonk Motorsport) finished sixth, just behind Frenchman Marvin Klein (Proton Huber Competition). Saturday’s race winner, Flynt Schuring (Schumacher CLRT), failed to reach the chequered flag this time: the Dutchman retired his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup as a precaution after contact with a rival caused radiator damage.
In the Rookie and ProAm classes, Saturday’s winners repeated their success. Dutchman Sacha Norden not only took another Rookie win but also finished eighth overall – extending his lead in the category. ‟It was great fun battling with experienced guys like Marvin Klein and Flynt Schuring,” said the 24-year-old from Proton Huber Competition. In a last-gasp bid on the final lap, ProAm front-runner Michael Schrey (Bonk Motorsport) also scored back-to-back class wins after a race-long duel with fellow German Sören Spreng (GP Elite), ‟Two wins in a row at the Norisring – that’s amazing!” said the veteran. ‟Overtaking Sören on the last lap made it even better.” Schrey now leads the ProAm standings.
‟This thrilling double-header at the Norisring was the perfect way to round off the first half of the season,” said Thorsten Rückert, Project Manager Porsche Sixt Carrera Cup Deutschland. ‟It’s incredibly close in all categories, which shows just how high the level of competition is in our one-make cup. The remaining eight races promise plenty more excitement.”
The series, which features the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, is now taking a short summer break. The 2025 season continues with round five from 8 to 10 August at the Nürburgring.
