Recycled aluminum. What’s your first thought? Probably soda cans, but this material goes so much further. In fact, recycled aluminum is part of many important vehicle components and the process of reusing it happens on a grand scale.
The industrial recycling industry is being spotlighted by Repurposed, a docuseries, and this season is all about aluminum.
The Repurposed team followed the path of recycled aluminum – and it took them right to Toyota Missouri. Located in Troy, the Toyota Missouri plant makes more than two million cylinder heads a year using recycled aluminum.
“It is great to see our team and the work they do featured by Repurposed,” said Todd Williams, Toyota Missouri president. “It’s a fun way to learn more about our company’s environmental efforts, and how the recycling industry is a vital part of what we do.”
In addition to showcasing the relationship between recycling and manufacturing, the series also shows the benefits of a circular economy. This is when businesses optimize resources and minimize waste across the production and consumption cycle. When a product reaches the end of its life, recycling keeps it within the economy wherever possible. These materials can be productively used again and again.
