DETROIT, July 15, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Regrid, a leading provider of nationwide parcel data and location intelligence solutions, is proud to announce a new functionality that connects its persistent parcel identifier, the Regrid ID, with the GERS ID from the Overture Maps Foundation’s Places dataset. This linkage creates a powerful bridge between parcels and real-world points of interest (POIs), empowering Regrid users to derive deeper insights from both proprietary and open datasets.
This integration is built on a shared commitment between Regrid and Overture Maps Foundation (Overture) to foster data interoperability across systems. The Global Entity Reference System (GERS), developed by Overture, provides a universal framework for identifying physical and conceptual entities—such as office buildings, airports, and landmarks—with a persistent and unique GERS ID. Regrid has established a join between these GERS IDs and its nationwide parcel data via the Regrid ID (ll_uuid), available to customers through an auxiliary bridge file.
“I’ve heard it said we go as far as our networks take us,” said Regrid CEO, Jerry Paffendorf. “By integrating the Regrid ID with Overture’s GERS ID, Regrid parcel data can be easily joined to Overture Maps data and vice versa, growing the overall data network for better location decisions.”
The Places dataset within Overtures includes more than 61 million point features representing real-world entities like hospitals, schools, restaurants, and more, compiled from contributors including Meta, Microsoft, and PinMeTo. By combining Regrid premium parcel data, this new process bolsters fundamental information already offered via land use and zoning fields and ensures greater insights into property landscape.
“We see tremendous value in linking Overture Places data to parcel boundaries, but the time and effort required to reconcile the two has been a hurdle,” said Reina Chano Murray, Associate Director, Center for Geospatial Solutions at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy. Integrating this data directly into Regrid will streamline our efforts to help policymakers understand how land is owned, used, and changing over time. We’re excited to explore this new capability and the insights it could unlock.”
The Regrid–GERS bridge file is available as a bulk file delivery to Regrid premium parcel customers. Users of this functionality can benefit from ready-to-use, parcel-to-POI join capabilities across a range of use cases:
- Site selection & market planning – Understand zoning and land use in context with nearby businesses or competitors.
- Spatial analysis & public planning – Assess business types in proximity to demographic areas to inform community services and infrastructure.
- Commercial real estate strategy – Enhance market analysis and portfolio management by linking parcel insights to commercial activity.
“The value of open and interoperable location data grows exponentially when organizations align on common identifiers,” said Marc Prioleau, Executive Director, Overture Maps Foundation. “By connecting Regrid’s parcel data to GERS IDs, we’re making it easier for users to derive meaningful, location-based insights across property and place datasets. This is a highly valuable use case and we hope to see even more organizations combine their own datasets and ID systems with GERS in order to unlock even greater accuracy, context, and utility for the entire mapping ecosystem.”
By linking Regrid parcels to GERS IDs within this dataset, customers have an easier way to join two nationwide datasets to derive necessary land use insights into a property. This match supports Regrid’s broader ID expansion, which already includes industry-recognized identifiers such as Placekey and PreciselyID.
