The marlin was landed by angler Chuck Landrum of Hobbs, New Mexico, guided by Captain Nick Durham with expert leader work from deckhand Summer Smith. This was the first marlin Chuck ever caught. The hour-long battle unfolded on Captain Durham’s own tackle—Tantrum Lures’ “XL Plunger” paired with the “TTS 10/0 hook.” The combination of teamwork and precision gear delivered a milestone moment on Kona’s legendary waters.
“This is what every big-game fisherman dreams of,” said Tantrum owner Mike Glimpse. “Landing a fish of this magnitude is a testament to our captain and crew’s dedication, our special boat, the effectiveness of Tantrum Lures and TTS Hooks, and the incredible fishery we have here in Kona. Chuck fought an amazing fight for over 60 minutes, and Summer was phenomenal on the deck. It was truly unforgettable.”
The 41-foot G&S Tantrum with her incredible fishing lineage, once again proved itself in world-class conditions. Beyond marking a career highlight for the crew and angler, this catch reinforces Kona’s reputation as one of the planet’s most productive big-game fishing destinations.
Tantrum Sportfishing offers private charters for both seasoned anglers and first-time adventurers, sharing the thrill of Kona’s blue-water action. With a Grander now on their record, the team is more eager than ever to welcome guests in pursuit of their own fish of a lifetime.
