18 Million Aetna® Members Now Have Access to Innovative Program for Pelvic Health

ASHCare™ Virtual Pelvic Health Program Allows Patients to Receive Best-of-Clinic Pelvic Health Physical Therapy from the Comfort of Home

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Aetna®, a CVS Health® company, recently partnered with American Specialty Health (ASH) to provide access to the ASHCare™ Virtual Physical Therapy Pelvic Health Services program for roughly 18 million commercial health plan members.

“The launch of this partnership with ASH represents a significant leap forward in our efforts to better address pelvic health conditions,” said Andrea Jones, MD, JD, medical director of clinical business support for Aetna. “We are thrilled to provide our members with access to a program that integrates directly with our current physical therapy benefit and provides a great option for specialty care of pelvic health conditions.”

The pelvic floor musculature, central to human daily function, is highly involved in incontinence, and sexual function issues—and could be influential in other pelvic area pain and dysfunction for both women and men. Once dismissed as a normal part of pregnancy, prostate issues, or aging, pelvic health awareness has become a trending topic with the understanding that symptoms can be treated and managed with care.

“More and more, people are beginning to understand that by alleviating pelvic symptoms and improving pelvic floor muscle function, they can boost their self-confidence and quality of life,” said Jaynie Bjornaraa, PhD, MPH, PT, senior vice president of rehabilitation services and digital self-care solutions for ASH. “The ASHCare model of pelvic health physical therapy ensures that no one has to suffer in silence or postpone care due to logistical hurdles.”

This rising awareness is empowering individuals to seek care, ask questions, and demand solutions that address not just the symptoms but the root causes of their pelvic health dysfunction and resultant quality of life disruption.

Due to advances in telerehabilitation, the dual challenge of finding a physical therapist that specializes in pelvic health care and making time for an in-person visit is beginning to get easier. Virtual physical therapy is proving transformative for anyone tackling pelvic health needs because it combines convenience with professional oversight, Dr. Bjornaraa said.

The ASHCare Virtual Physical Therapy Pelvic Health Services program connects patients and providers for live, one-on-one sessions dedicated to specialized pelvic health physical therapy. It also employs a member concierge to deliver white-glove patient service, answer questions, and schedule the initial appointments.

The ASHCare program goes a step further and provides patients with optional clinical coaching, which can help individuals reframe how they view their condition.

“Pelvic health issues can be incredibly isolating, and this program is designed to ensure that patients never feel alone on their journey,” said George DeVries, CEO and president of American Specialty Health. “ASHCare helps us empower Aetna members with the tools, care, and support they need.”

This new partnership reflects Aetna’s commitment to empowering its members with innovative resources and solutions tailored to their health needs.

Today, Aetna health plan members with pelvic health care needs will find the ASHCare program can improve the speed of access to a pelvic health specialty physical therapy provider, deliver unparalleled concierge service, and provide members with a clinical coach to reinforce new habits for sustained pelvic health, if they choose.

Aetna invites its members to explore the ASHCare program and discover the difference that comprehensive, compassionate, and innovative care can make.
