PLANO, Texas, Sept. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Nasim Farshid, a former employee of Ulta Salon, Cosmetics & Fragrance, Inc. (“Ulta”), has filed a lawsuit against the company, alleging unlawful race discrimination, national origin discrimination, and retaliation. The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, Sherman Division, claims that Ulta violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. ยง 1981, and Chapter 21 of the Texas Labor Code.
According to the complaint, Farshid, an Iranian immigrant, faced egregious behavior from her coworkers and supervisors at Ulta’s Plano, Texas retail location. The complaint details incidents where Farshid was belittled for her race and national origin, including being mocked for her accent and being forced to wear a name tag that read “I Speak English,” which no other employee had to wear. A photo of her wearing the nametag was then circulated amongst the store’s employees and management, where Farshid was taunted for her obvious discomfort. The lawsuit also alleges that Ulta’s management not only failed to intervene but actively participated in the discrimination and retaliation. The complaint further claims that when Farshid raised concerns about the discrimination, Ulta escalated its retaliation, ultimately wrongfully terminating Farshid in December of 2023.
“Ulta talks a lot about being inclusive to people of all races and backgrounds, but this is how people who work for them get treated. I want to spread awareness and have Ulta take accountability,” said Farshid.
Farshid is represented by Trial Attorney Harjeen Zibari of Rob Wiley, P.C. “Immigrants come to this country for a better life, expecting that so long as they work hard, they can have a good life. Nasim worked hard, but was harassed and ostracized for being different. That’s exactly what our laws are designed to prevent.”
The case is pending before United States District Judge Michael J. Truncale and is under Cause Number 4:25-cv-00909.
