Accuris to Part Ways with ASTM to Protect Customers from Unfair Terms; Invites Return to a Customer-First Agreement

Non-renewal follows five decades of partnership; Accuris cites mandated platform restrictions and packaging that overcharge enterprises for content they do not use. Accuris remains committed to reaching a resolution with ASTM while ensuring customers have uninterrupted access to mission-critical standards from across the global ecosystem.

DENVER, Sept. 4, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Accuris, the engineering-intelligence platform used by the world’s leading innovators, today announced it is parting ways with ASTM and not renewing its distribution agreement with ASTM International. After more than 50 years of collaboration, Accuris is electing to defend customers from licensing terms that would have continued to force users off integrated workflows onto a siloed platform while charging them for large bundles of content they rarely accessed.

“This non-renewal is first and foremost about our customers,” said Claude Pumilia, CEO of Accuris. “Enterprises choose Accuris because we unify mission-critical standards, parts data, and workflow intelligence in one place. The terms envisioned by ASTM would have significantly degraded the customer experience, and we believe their pricing practices are fundamentally unfair. We could not, in good conscience, accept those terms and still claim to act in our customers’ best interests.”

Most SDOs provide high-use content. In contrast, ASTM charges for an expansive catalog – even though most of its titles are never used. Additionally, ASTM requires the use of a non-transparent pricing model for customer requests, making it impossible to ensure our customers receive fair and consistent pricing for similar content, or to offer their materials under market-competitive terms.

In parallel, ASTM is seeking to mandate redirection to its proprietary platform (“Compass”), which does not meet many customers’ usability, integration, and compliance needs across PLM/ERP and audit workflows – areas where Accuris has invested heavily to provide a seamless experience.

“We have worked in good faith for decades – including enabling pass-through access to ASTM’s Compass system when requested – to support customers who rely on ASTM content,” added Duane Newman, Accuris’ Chief Product Officer. “We remain ready to resolve this and finalize a modern, customer-first agreement. Accuris reiterates its belief that engineers, manufacturers, and the public are best served when standards are accessible through unified, open, and auditable workflows – not fragmented across mandatory silos.”

What This Means for Customers Today

  • No change to Accuris’ breadth of standards and regulations from other SDO partners. Accuris continues to deliver the industry’s most comprehensive, integrated library, and workflow intelligence capabilities (EWB Pro, traceability, supply chain insights) across thousands of publishers.
  • For organizations that rely on ASTM content:
    • Accuris will retain the right to provide ASTM content through 2026
    • Accuris will maintain link integrity, citations, and audit trails for previously licensed documents where permitted by contract.

A Call for Partnership over Silos

“Companies today are asking for a single, integrated solution,” said Claude Pumilia. “When standards bodies and technology platforms partner, the entire ecosystem wins: faster time-to-market, fewer errors and rework, and stronger competitiveness in trade and export. We invite ASTM to re-engage on terms that recognize modern enterprise needs – fair pricing and interoperable access.”

Accuris remains committed to building an open, partner-centric ecosystem – one that empowers all SDOs to thrive, enables traceability across supply chains, and gives every customer, from startups to global giants, access to the documents they need.
