@Toyota: Toyota Tsusho Receives Third-Party Allocation of Shares from Taiwan’s Ta Chen Stainless Pipe Co., Ltd.

Toyota Tsusho Corporation (“Toyota Tsusho”) announced today that it has invested in Taiwan’s Ta Chen Stainless Pipe Co., Ltd. (“TCSP”) by receiving a third-party allocation of shares.
The investment amount is USD 46.65 million (approximately JPY 7 billion).

TCSP is a major manufacturer of stainless steel and aluminum materials based in Taiwan, operating globally. In North America, it owns TCI TEXARKANA, INC. (“TKA”), a group company that manufactures aluminum coils.

Currently, the North American aluminum market continues to experience an excess of demand over supply, and this trend is expected to persist. Aluminum is an essential material for the realization of lightweight electric vehicles, making the securing of stable suppliers a critical issue.

Toyota Tsusho established FUJIHATSU & TOYOTSU Battery Components, North Carolina LLC (“FTBC”) in the U.S. in 2023 together with Fuji Springs Co., Inc. The company manufactures aluminum cell cases and cell covers* for automotive batteries.

The investment in TCSP aims to establish a long-term, stable supply system for aluminum through TKA, catering not only to cell case applications such as FTBC, but also to other needs. In addition, the goal for the future is to establish a closed-loop system where aluminum scrap generated during the manufacturing processes of suppliers is recovered and reused as raw materials at TKA.

Toyota Tsusho will promote the establishment of a global supply chain that consistently supports everything from the procurement of materials essential for the spread of electric vehicles to their manufacturing and supply, while contributing to the realization of carbon neutrality.

* A cell case is an exterior component that protects the cell of an automotive battery from external environmental factors. A cell cover seals the cell opening and protects the internal structure.
