NPG Launches Educational Campaign to Bring Population Studies into U.S. Classrooms

Free Classroom Resources on Population Growth Now Available

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Sept. 17, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — Negative Population Growth, Inc. (NPG) today announced the launch of its 2025-2026 Teacher Packet, a free educational resource now available to educators of grades 7-12 nationwide. The packets are designed to help teachers facilitate classroom discussions on U.S. population size, growth, and the resulting environmental and social impacts. Shipments will begin towards the end of September.

The Teacher Packet provides comprehensive, ready-to-use materials to integrate population issues into lesson plans. Each packet includes up-to-date Student Fact Sheets, a full-color U.S. population poster, a PowerPoint presentation to guide lesson plans on population issues, and a selection of NPG Forum papers that highlight the dangers of our nation’s ever-increasing population. The Teacher Packet also includes a two-sided Activity Sheet for students. Featuring a word search and a crossword puzzle, this new hands-on exercise provides students with the opportunity to immediately apply knowledge gained from our Student Fact Sheets. These resources are designed to help students understand the real-world consequences of population dynamics.

“Every year, NPG offers population-focused materials to teachers across America. Our purpose is to provide critical up-to-date resources on population growth in the United States for American students from coast to coast,” said Craig Lewis, NPG’s Executive Director. “By sharing the realities of the negative consequences of ‘too many people’ with today’s students, teachers are able to open pupils’ eyes as to how their generation will face new population-related challenges.”

The program aims to connect with students on topics they are already engaged with, such as climate change, by showing how population growth exacerbates these issues. The materials provide a foundation for understanding the competition for limited resources like water, food, and energy, and the effects of overpopulation on America’s infrastructure and natural habitats.

Lewis continued, “With young people already very alert to the climate change issue, it’s vital they also learn how tens of millions of new people in the U.S. will lead to greater competition for limited water, food, housing and energy; how they will further stress our country’s already fragile infrastructure; and how overpopulation will dangerously impact already threatened farms, forests, rivers and fragile wildlife habitats.”

Teachers interested in receiving a free 2025-2026 NPG Teacher Packet can request one by visiting NPG.org/Teachers. The materials are shipped free of charge to any school within the United States.

Since 1972, NPG has worked to educate both the public and policy leaders about the impacts of overpopulation. With a steadfast commitment to reducing population growth to achieve a sustainable balance with our environmental resources, NPG continues to be a leading voice of reason in a world often driven by the pursuit of perpetual growth. NPG advocates for the adoption of its Proposed National Population Policy, with the goal of eventually stabilizing U.S. population at a sustainable level – far lower than today’s. We do not simply identify the problems – we propose solutions. For more information, visit our website at NPG.org, follow us on Facebook @NegativePopulationGrowth or follow us on X @npg_org.
