The Nissan (4021.T) Qashqai took third place with 7,218 cars sold.

The Jaecoo 7 was number four on the list, with 6,489 units sold, followed by the Vauxhall Corsa, with 5,841 registrations.

“Electrified vehicles are powering market growth after a sluggish summer – and with record ZEV uptake, massive industry investment is paying off, despite demand still trailing ambition,” said Mike Hawes, SMMT chief executive.

“The Electric Car Grant will help to break down one of the barriers holding back more drivers from making the switch – and tackling remaining roadblocks, by unlocking infrastructure investment and driving down energy costs, will be crucial to the success of the industry and the environmental goals we share.”

More than half (50.8%) of all new vehicles registered during the month were electrified. Chinese EV manufacturer BYD has become a favoured low-cost option as Tesla’s (TSLA) dominance in the UK market has waned in the second half of the year.
