“Discovering potential together.” This is the concept behind TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO, which is set to open on October 3, 2025.
The arena is designed to be a place where possibilities in sports, mobility, and sustainability come together and are unleashed. It’s a sports arena that can also host events and concerts, with a capacity of approximately 10,000 people.
Yuta Tomikawa visited and explored the site in April, while it was still under construction. The star attraction is the expansive main arena that opens up directly from the entrance. According to Norihiro Tsujioka, site director at Kajima Corporation, the plans were so daunting that he found himself saying, “Oh, come on…” when he first saw them.
The arena has an oval shape, which is rare these days, allowing spectators in the “corners” to view the court head-on without having to turn in their seats. The central hanging display ensures clear visibility for spectators in the upper rows, while Japan’s first double ribbon board wraps around the seating area.
The opening ceremony in September also featured a talk show. When asked what it means to athletes to have a fixed place to compete, Chairman Akio Toyoda summed it up in a single phrase: “a place of inspiration.” To hear more of what he had to say, check out the second half of the video.
Lastly, Chairman Toyoda wrapped it up by saying, “This arena is a canvas for countless moments of inspiration and excitement. It’s something to be shaped together — and I look forward to making it a place that truly comes alive with all of you.”
TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO will open in four days, on October 3. That same evening at 7:05 p.m., Alvark Tokyo are scheduled to play their very first home basketball game there.
