IG Metall: Young people need stable pensions!

The IG Metall-Youth criticized the pension plans of the “Junge Union” at its Germany Day and the threat of individual MPs to cancel the pension package from the coalition agreement with the stabilized pension level.

Svenja Thelen, Federal Youth Secretary of IG Metall, says: “The Junge Union is playing with the future of young employees. Anyone who cuts into the statutory pension destroys trust and increases poverty in old age. We need security, not cuts – and finally solidarity. We demand a sustainable and stable statutory pension insurance: fairly financed, for everyone and with all workers.”

According to IG Metall, the stabilization of pension levels agreed in the coalition agreement is particularly necessary for the younger generation and their future pension rights.

With around 200,000 members up to the age of 27, IG Metall-Jugend is the largest political youth organization in Germany.
