Grab formally recognises National Taxi Association

Singapore, 17 November 2025 – The National Taxi Association (NTA), which is affiliated to the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), is now formally recognised by Grab Singapore (Grab) to represent taxi drivers on its platform under the Platform Workers Act.

Grab is the first platform operator to formally recognise all three Platform Work Associations (PWAs). While Grab and the PWAs have been collaborating to support drivers- and delivery-partners, this formal recognition enables closer engagement.

NTA and Grab announced this milestone today, following an agreement signing ceremony. The agreement was signed by Mr Alvin Wee, Head of Transport and Country Operations of Grab Singapore, and Ms Teo Siew Pan, Executive Secretary of NTA. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr Alejandro Osorio, Managing Director of Grab Singapore, and Ms Yeo Wan Ling, Assistant Secretary-General of NTUC and Advisor to NDCA, NPHVA and NTA.

Building on strong partnership

The partnership between Grab and NTA marks the newest development in collaboration between Grab and the three NTUC associations, which have had active engagements preceding the Platform Workers Act in January 2025. Earlier in March 2025, Grab formally recognised the NPHVA and NDCA to represent private hire drivers and delivery workers respectively.

Ms Yeo Wan Ling, Assistant Secretary-General of NTUC and Advisor to NDCA, NPHVA and NTA said, “Today’s signing marks a milestone, as all three associations representing platform workers are formally recognised by a single platform operator for the first time. This strengthens our collective voice and allows us to work closely with Grab to address key challenges faced by our platform workers, including earnings, safety and working conditions. Together, we are showing how associations and platform companies can collaborate to support our platform workers’ livelihoods and welfare.”

Mr Alejandro Osorio, Managing Director of Grab Singapore, said, “Grab’s mission aligns with the commitment of NTUC and its associations to uplift the lives and livelihoods of platform workers. Our relationship with the NTA has been one of mutual respect and open conversations, allowing us to effectively address drivers’ concerns and improve their welfare. We look forward to working more closely together on programmes that deliver meaningful and lasting positive change for the taxi driver community.”

Enabling better earnings, welfare and work conditions

Under these formal agreements, NDCA, NPHVA and NTA can legally negotiate on behalf of workers on matters including fair earnings, welfare and work conditions. Grab and the associations have also been collaborating through the Platform Workers Trilateral Group to address critical issues such as illegal cross-border work in delivery and ride-hailing services, which directly affects local workers’ earnings.

As part of its ongoing commitment to enhance worker welfare, Grab continues to sponsor a six-month NTUC membership for new sign-ups to all three platform work associations. This sponsorship is a key feature of GrabBenefits 2.0, a holistic support programme designed to address partners’ critical needs across multiple areas, including healthcare (doctor visits and telemedicine), daily operational expenses (discounts for fuel and EV charging), and access to training and upskilling opportunities.
