2024 was the year Tesla’s long-term story changed dramatically. Instead of growing, growing, growing … well, just write that 12 times in total … 2024 was the year Tesla saw an annual sales decline. It was the first time since the Model S was released that Tesla’s sales dropped year over year. That was 2024, now we’re in 2025.
Well, in the European Union, things have been no better for Tesla. (As seems to be the case, to varying degrees, in the United States and China as well.)
The European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) publishes monthly data on sales in the European Union and beyond. The great news: full battery-electric vehicle registrations rose 44.1% in November 2025 compared to November 2024. In addition, plugin hybrid registrations rose 38.4% year over year.
The bad news, for Tesla, is that it has not tracked with that electric vehicle growth at all. “Sales of Tesla’s electric cars fell across Europe again last month, as the company’s annus horribilis continued,” The Guardian writes.
“European auto lobby ACEA is reporting this morning that Tesla registrations tumbled by 34.2% in the European Union year-on-year in November, and fell by 11.8% across the wider EU, Britain and European Free Trade Association area.”
Wowza. That’s not good. Some people have highlighted Tesla doing well in certain markets in certain months, but the overall picture is that Tesla is not doing as well in Europe in 2025 as it did in 2024, when it didn’t do as well as in 2023.
In November, Tesla scored 12,130 registrations across the EU, which is down from 18,430 registrations in November 2024. Its market share thus dropped from 2.1% to 1.4%.
That’s it for today. For more, keep an eye out for our next Europe EV Sales Report. José Pontes will go into much more detail on Tesla’s sales as well as other automakers’ EV sales.
