The European Commission has expanded the possibilities for state aid for energy-intensive companies. Jürgen Kerner, Second Chairman of IG Metall:

“Significantly lower energy costs are crucial for jobs and companies in Germany, especially in industry. We at IG Metall believe that the fact that the EU Commission is now creating better opportunities for a competitive industrial electricity price and the expansion of electricity price compensation is the right signal. We were on the streets for this, we held discussions and strongly advocated for it.
However, the measures now presented are not enough. The slight increase in electricity price compensation from 75 to 80 percent does not yet provide the necessary relief. In particular, the possibility of double support from industrial electricity prices and electricity price compensation is absolutely necessary and must happen. In this respect, today’s decision by the EU Commission is a first step in the right direction, others must now follow quickly.”
