IG Metall on the report of the Social State Commission

“Good impulses that must now be carefully implemented! The Welfare State Commission is presenting numerous proposals that are correct in their idea and welcome: Simplify the welfare state without curtailing it. We need such signals of progress right now!

However, the report remains vague in places when it comes to concrete implementation. The next steps after a sensible surcharge must now be concretized quickly. You can’t bake a cake with unlaid eggs.

Bundling social benefits, flat rates, lower allowances or higher crediting rates must mean less bureaucracy, not fewer benefits! Reductions are excluded. In view of tight budgets, strict financing restrictions and the different interests of those involved, this risk must be kept closely in mind.”
