The year will close with more than 2 million units sold

MADRID, May 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Sales of passenger cars and SUVs increased by 16.7% in April compared to the same month of the previous year, to stand at 161,232 units, according to data from the MSI consultancy for the Federation of Associations of Automotive Dealers (Faconauto).

So far in 2018, the commercialization of this type of vehicle increased by 7.5% compared to the first four months of 2017, reaching 645,721 units sold. Faconauto expects to produce “something more” of two million used sales at the end of the year, which would represent a 5% increase.

The federation noted that this upward trend in the second-hand market is due to the good moment that model transfers of up to five years go through, with those from zero to three years growing by 24.1% and those from three to five a 29; 4%.

Faconauto stressed that the used ones of this age range already account for almost 25% of all transfers and are being “favored” by the arrival on the market of self-registered units by dealers. According to MSI, more than 10,000 used transfers in April came from tactical registrations, which means a “strong growth” of 38% for that channel of origin.

On the other hand, the vehicles of occasion of between six and ten years experienced a fall in their sales in April of 6.7%, while those of more than ten grew by 20%, hoarding 61% of the total of transfers in this market.

“We are witnessing a transformation of this sector in our country, coinciding with the growing importance of the concessionaires, responsible for the commercialization of the models of up to 5 years, which is allowing us to improve the quality of the second-hand market,” explained the director. of Communication of the Federation, Raúl Morales.

However, he warned that Spain will not have a “healthy” market and will not be able to match the main European markets until the cars of more than ten years are removed from the circuit.

Sales of used vehicles through dealers grew by 36.2% in April compared to the same month in 2017, above sales (+ 16.1%) and business (+ 12.6%) .
