Madrid City Council will create a central area or emissions from June of this year, as assured by the Technical Advisor of Citizens of the city of Madrid, Javier Castaño, as one of the measures that are within the air quality plan From the capital.
According to Castaño, 70% of the bad air quality is caused by transport, so it is in this sector where most of the initiatives to reduce pollution set in motion by the consistory are directed.
The ‘zero emissions’ area will be limited to the Centro district and will be operational “theoretically” in June 2018. In this area, only residents’ vehicles, vehicles without emissions, vehicles authorized by residents, as well as the loading and unloading at certain times and taxis.
This measure joins other measures included in the plan, such as the prohibition of entry into the city of Euro 3 diesel starting in 2025 and the ban on the use of parking meters for these models as of 2020.
