The cars are up 0.8% in May

The price of automobiles in May increased by 0.8% year-on-year, compared to the general Consumer Price Index (CPI), which increased by 0.9% in May compared to the previous month, and increased one point its interannual rate, up to 2.1%, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

The CPI of automobiles marketed in Spain in the first five months of the year remained stable compared to the same period of the previous year, as compared to the fifth month of the current year.

Sources of the sector explained to Europa Press that this increase in the price of cars in May is a consequence of the greater demand, by consumers, of SUVs, which have a higher cost and, in many cases, have to face to a higher type of registration tax.

On the other hand, motorcycles increased by 1.2% in May compared to that month of 2017, while since the beginning of the year the increase was seven tenths, although it remained stable in May compared to April.

Spare parts and accessories for vehicles experienced a price increase of 1.1% last month in interannual rate, as well as seven tenths from January and a reduction of one tenth in the comparison with the fourth month of 2018.

Likewise, fuels and lubricants experienced a strong increase of eleven percentage points in May and 7% so far this year. The month-on-month rise was 4.1%.

For its part, the price of vehicle maintenance and repair services experienced an increase of 1.8% last month compared to that month of 2017, although the variation so far this year was + 0.8% , with a stagnation compared to the previous month.

In addition, prices of other services related to vehicles closed the fifth month of 2018 with an annual increase of 0.7% and 0.8% since the beginning of the year, while only experienced an inter-monthly rise of one tenth .
