WOLFSBURG (GERMANY), 13 Jun. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Volkswagen automobile consortium has accepted the payment of a fine of 1,000 million euros by the public prosecutor’s office of Braunschweig (Germany) in the context of the case of software that altered emissions in some diesel vehicles.

The amount to be paid by the group presided over by Herbert Diess includes the payment of a maximum fine of 5 million euros, in accordance with the legislation of the country, as well as the return of economic benefits by the company of 995 million euros. euros

This sanction, according to the company, comes after the results of the investigation carried out by the prosecutor’s office of Braunschweig, which indicated a breach by the Volkswagen Motor Development Department in its duty to control the tests of vehicles .

“According to the results obtained by the prosecutor of Braunschweig, there were concurrent causes in a total of 10.7 million vehicles with diesel engines of types EA 288 (Generation 3), in the United States and Canada, and EA 189, all over the world, being advertised, sold to customers and placed on the market with an inadmissible software function in the period between mid-2007 and 2015, “said the car company.

The company stressed that, after conducting a thorough examination, decided to accept this fine and will not file an appeal, so it admits its responsibility for the diesel crisis and that this situation represents an “important step” to overcome this problem.

As a result of this sanction and acceptance by the company, the legal procedures that Volkswagen was carrying out will be closed, which, in its opinion, will have a positive effect on other legal proceedings against the company in Europe.
