MADRID, 26 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The general director of Audi in Spain, José Miguel Aparicio, has argued that diesel is a fuel “absolutely” necessary in the transition to an electric mobility without emissions in which the automotive sector is currently engulfed.

Speaking to Europa Press, Aparicio has defended that this type of fuel has suffered an “excessive” demonization and that it still has “a long way”. “Current cars powered by diesel emit 10% less carbon dioxide (CO2) than those of ten years ago,” he said.

In Spain, sales of passenger cars powered by gasoline accounted for 46.6% of total registrations in 2017, 1.7 percentage points less than those driven by diesel (48.3%). Specifically, in the months of June, July, October, November and December sales of diesel cars exceeded those of gasoline.

“Even if there is a shift in the ‘mix’ of gasoline and diesel sales, it is not justified from the point of view of the rational analysis of emissions,” said the manager of the firm of the four rings.

Aparicio stressed that the German brand is immersed in the renewal of its range and that by the end of this year up to 90% of its commercial catalog will be new. In the first quarter of the course the new A8, A7, RS4 and R8 RWS will arrive, while between April and June the new A6 will.

For its part, in the third quarter of this year will see the light Q8 and a new SUV, in addition to the new versions of the A8 (both with body of long battle) of 12 cylinders and hybrid propulsion (e-tron). Finally, in the last three months of the year Audi will present the e-tron quattro, the new A1, Q3 and R8, as well as putting on sale a hybrid variant of the Q5.

According to the director of the German brand in Spain, this will be the “most important” offensive in the history of the signature of the four rings. “We are going to renew our product portfolio with more efficient vehicles.” In the premium market, the renewal of products is the best argument to sell “, he underlined.
