MADRID, Nov. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The registrations of cars and SUVs recorded a volume of 88,410 units during the month of October, which represents a decrease of 6.6% compared to the same month of the previous year, according to data from the manufacturers’ associations (Anfac), dealers (Faconauto) and sellers (Ganvam).

This month of October had a working day more than last year. Despite this day of deliveries, the market is still adjusting after the advance of purchases that led to the entry into force on September 1 of the new regulation for measuring WLTP emissions. The months of July and, especially, August registered very high increases in registrations that are now being balanced, highlighting the main Spanish employers of the automotive sector.

In this way, the national market chains two consecutive months in decline. In September, car sales in the national territory fell by 67%, to 69,129 units, after the ‘hangover’ of the WLTP, which in August raised the market by almost 50%, with 107,692 units sold.

Between January and October, car sales improved by 10% compared to the same months of the previous year, to 1.3 million units.

The director of Communication of Anfac, Noemi Navas, explained that the market is adjusting “little by little”, after the “distortion” generated by the arrival of the WLTP, in line with the forecasts. However, she was hopeful that growth will return again, in a “very tight” way in November and with more pull in December.

For his part, Faconauto Communication Director, Raul Morales, stressed that the “hangover” of the WLTP continues, which “inflated” the market in the months of July and August, and that has also been felt in October, ceasing to register more than 10,000 units for this reason.

“The hangover of the registrations of the month of August continues in October, with generalized falls, with respect to the data of 2017, in cars of all the channels. The good news is that the annual accumulated continues to grow above 10%. November and December can serve to round a year with a very good performance in most segments, “said the Director of Communication of Ganvam, Elias Domingo.

THE DIESEL CONTINUES BACK

On the other hand, diesel continued behind gasoline in October and so far this year. Thus, last month, 58.5% of deliveries corresponded to gasoline models, compared to 32.8% of diesel and 8.7% of hybrids and electric.

Until October, 57.1% of cars and jeeps had a gasoline engine, compared to 36.6% of diesel models. The hybrids and electric took 6.4% of deliveries.

By channels, sales to companies closed the tenth month of the year with a volume of 30,670 units, representing a fall of 9%, while in the accumulated of the year corporate deliveries reached 356,826 units, a 16.9% more.

For their part, private customers acquired 52,751 cars last month, down 3.1%, and 516,569 units so far in 2018, while rental companies bought 4,989 units last month, down 23.4%, and 205,915 units since January, 7.2% more.
