FrankfurtThe car supplier ZF Friedrichshafen wants to invest three billion euros in the conversion of gearbox production from pure combustion to hybrid drive. In the estimation of ZFBoss Wolf-Henning Scheider is the hybrid technology that allows a limited drive purely electric and needs fuel on the long haul, not just a bridge technology,

“The proportion of hybrid transmissions in production will increase tenfold over the next few years – from five to 50 percent,” Scheider explained on Friday. Alone in the tail unit for transmission technology in Saarbrücken a total of 800 million euros will flow in the next four years.

In total, Germany’s third-largest automotive supplier in electric drives will invest twelve billion euros over the next five years, including three billion for hybrid technology. With the rise of electromobility, sales of transmissions and thus also the number of employees of currently around 9,000 in Saarbrücken will decrease, continued the boss of the car drive technology of ZF, Stephan von Schuckmann.

“The fact that these effects will only take place in a few years gives us the opportunity to prepare for them today.” The Institute for Employment Research recently estimated that by 2035, in Germany almost 114,000 jobs are lost.
