Lyft is on a mission to build the world’s best transportation ecosystem, and as part of that, our ongoing investment in self-driving is critical. That’s why we’re excited to announce that we’ve brought on a world-class executive to lead our AV safety efforts.
John Maddox joins Lyft as Senior Director, Autonomous Safety and Compliance, where he will work at the intersection of our policy, legal, and self-driving teams to ensure that Lyft is a safety leader in the development of autonomous vehicles. John will also lead our newly launched Office of Autonomous Safety and Compliance, which will function within Lyft as an independent safety assurance “gateway” for our AV program and as a key advisor to the executive team.
John joins Lyft with 20 years of experience in the automotive industry, with a strong focus on safety and engineering. Most recently, he founded and led the American Center for Mobility, a first-of-its-kind partnership initiative focused on speeding product development of automated and connected transportation systems. John also served four years at the U.S. Department of Transportation, where he was responsible for leading vehicle safety research for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, including formulating its first AV safety program.
On joining Lyft, John said, “I’ve dedicated my career to advancing safe mobility technologies. Joining Lyft is a continuation of that effort, and I’m excited to be part of such a talented and energized team that’s leading the way in redefining the automotive industry and future of transportation.”
Join us in welcoming John to Lyft!
