NISSAN UPDATES ITS GOVERNMENT CODE

A month after Carlos Ghosn’s arrest and indictment, Nissan updated its corporate governance code and clarified that both Renault and the Japanese firm have mutual interests. Although the shareholders’ meeting of the Japanese group will examine if the purpose of each of these actions is “appropriate” and if the benefits and risks cover the cost of capital.

“The policy itself has not changed and the clarification does not refer to the partners of the alliance, but to the shares of the company in other listed companies,” said a spokesman for Nissan.

The move comes when the two partners have shown differences on how to deal with Ghosn’s arrest. Nissan immediately expelled Ghosn from the presidency, while Renault kept him as president and CEO while appointing its chief operating officer, Thiery Bollore, deputy general manager with Ghosn’s operating powers.
