WOLFSBURG (GERMANY), 27 Dec. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Volkswagen has presented the first mobile charging stations for electric vehicles, which will begin to be installed during the first half of 2019 in the German city of Wolfsburg as part of a pilot project and, from 2020 in other cities, as reported by the company it’s a statement.

Each station has a power of up to 100 kilowatts and allows charging both vehicles and electric bicycles. Up to four vehicles can be charged simultaneously: two with direct current (DC) and two with alternating current (AC) connections.

With a total battery storage capacity of up to 360 kilowatt hours, it allows charging up to 15 electric vehicles. Thanks to fast charging technology, the charging process is completed in 17 minutes on average. If the energy content of the integrated battery pack is less than 20%, the spent charging station is replaced by a charged one.

However, if it is permanently connected to the power supply with up to 30 kilowatts through alternating current, the battery is recharged continuously. In case the charging process is based on a renewable energy source, the charging station also allows the temporary storage of energy generated in a sustainable manner, such as solar or wind energy and, therefore, the neutral mobility of CO2 .

This allows the charging points of electric vehicles to be configured “quickly” and “simply”, without structural changes or significant financial expenses. The battery of the charging station can be recharged 24 hours a day thanks to the direct power connection.

These stations, being mobile, have a flexible location, so they are scattered around the city and can be found without difficulty through the Internet or mobile applications.

“The mobile charging stations are a decisive step towards an efficient network of charging points, they can be configured anywhere, as needed, with or without connection to the power supply, this flexibility allows a completely new approach for fast charging. Expansion of the cargo infrastructure Cities can, for example, discover the most suitable locations for a permanent loading point before making large investments in the development of the network, and it will be possible to configure a large number of loading stations temporarily , exactly when and where they are needed “, explained the Chairman of the Volkswagen Group Components Management Board, Thomas Schmall.
