The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicks off today in Las Vegas and for those unable to make it we wanted to provide a first-hand look at some of the innovative technologies we’ll be showcasing at our booth (LVCC North Hall, #7523).
This year BlackBerry will have two vehicles on display, the first being a 2019 Audi Q8, a car that is currently rolling off production lines and the other being a 2019 Karma Revero, which we’ll be using to demonstrate some of our latest innovations.
Audi Q8 – BlackBerry Technology in Motion
Audi has been a customer of ours for a long time and within the Q8, all of the displays use QNX technology including the digital instrument cluster, Heads-Up-Display and the Audi MMI® infotainment system. The Q8 features also the latest Audi Virtual Cockpit; a 12.3-inch display that allows the driver to customize the information they want to see, including full screen Google Earth Navigation.
Karma Revero – Showcasing Tomorrow’s Technology Today
The 2019 Karma Revero, is a great car that shows-off BlackBerry’s current and future automotive technology and offers a window into what could very much be a reality for the next generation of drivers. Karma was among BlackBerry’s first customers for software lifecycle management and we’re thrilled that they will be making their first ever CES appearance in our booth.
Within the Karma we’ll be demonstrating our new QNX Platform for Digital Cockpits solution – the world’s first platform for safe and secure digital cockpits that brings Android apps into the car in a highly-secure manner. With the QNX Platform for Digital Cockpits, Android applications are isolated from the rest of the infotainment and cluster software, providing drivers with the in-car experience they want, with the security, safety, and reliability they need.
The Karma has also been outfitted with six cameras and one solid state LiDAR that feed real-time sensor data via our QNX Platform for ADAS 2.0 to give people a sense of what the car sees when it’s out on the road and how it goes about making safe driving decisions.
The Karma also features studio quality audio thanks to a new partnership with MQA, a music industry innovator whose technology has been integrated within the BlackBerry QNX Acoustics Management Platform 3.0. BlackBerry QNX has long been on the forefront of automotive acoustics processing with handsfree, in-car communication and noise cancellation technologies, and the integration with MQA’s sets a new standard for the growing number of consumers who are looking for a high-end audio experience.
Finally, we’re demonstrating how AI-powered digital voice assistants such as IBM’s Watson and Google Assistant, can be deployed safely and securely within connected cars.
We’ll be sharing videos, photos and more throughout the show on the BlackBerry Newsroom and @BlackBerry on Twitter.
