Chevrolet Launches Monza and Unveils Onix in China
2019-03-21
WUHAN – The Chevrolet Monza, a new addition to the brand’s lineup in China, was launched today in Wuhan. The sporty compact sedan is available in five variants, including two Redline models and two RS models, that range in price from RMB 89,900 to RMB 119,900.
The Chevrolet Onix Redline also had its unveiling today. It is the first variant from the all-new Onix compact sedan nameplate and the sixth Chevrolet product in China that will include a Redline trim, joining the Equinox, Cruze, Orlando, all-new Malibu XL and Monza.
“Chevrolet has been at the forefront of delivering innovative models to match consumer preferences in China, the brand’s second-largest market,” said Scott Lawson, general director of Chevrolet for SAIC-GM. “The Monza and Onix will appeal especially to today’s younger car buyers, with styling and technologies that will enhance the ownership experience.”
Chevrolet Monza
The Monza is inspired by the famous Monza racing circuit in Italy. A classic Chevrolet nameplate, it represents the speed and passion that are part of the brand’s DNA.
Adopting Chevrolet’s lean muscularity design language, the Monza has a classic dual-grille design with larger openings and more dynamic tension, along with two-element LED headlights and daytime running lights. The hood has a muscular feel, while the two distinct lines on the sides have a multi-level three-dimensional sculpted effect.
To meet the need to keep connected on the go, the Monza comes with Chevrolet’s new MyLink+ in-vehicle infotainment system, which supports Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife. The system syncs with users’ smartphones to provide continually updated information on the car-mounted display. Users are eligible for 24 gigabytes of free OnStar in-vehicle app data traffic annually.
The Monza comes standard with GM’s Ecotec dual injection turbocharged engine. Mated with a six-speed dual clutch gearbox (DCG) transmission, the engine in Monza 320T variants delivers maximum power of 92 kW and maximum torque of 170 Nm, which is comparable to that of a 1.6L naturally aspirated engine. Fuel consumption is as low as 5.2 liters per 100 km.
The Monza 330T RS variants provide even greater output, with 120 kW of maximum power and 230 Nm of maximum torque. Its engine is matched with a six-speed DSS start/stop transmission.
The RS trims also feature a hexagonal honeycomb grille that has adorned classic Chevrolet performance cars. The grille offers an innovative interpretation through a large opening and a prominent RS logo. Flying wing-style high-gloss black chrome trim runs through the front of the car.
Two of the Monza 320T variants are Monza Redline models. They have a more dynamic appearance, characterized by black Chevrolet bowties in front and back, a black grille, flashy red trim on the bumper, and red and black trim on the wheels, outside rearview mirrors and spoiler.
Chevrolet Onix
The Onix adopts the newest Chevrolet family design language. The Redline trim integrates dynamic lines that are fashionable yet delicate. The front face has an impactful dual-grille design. The model also comes with stylish 16-inch aluminum wheels.
With a focus on safety, the Onix has added newly designed lens crystal drill stereo headlamps that are eye-catching and effectively gather light to improve visibility. Flying wing-style LED daytime running lights incorporate light-guided LED lamps.
Inspired by Chevrolet’s long racing heritage and sporty DNA, the Onix Redline comes with classic red and black design cues. Black Chevrolet bowties are mounted in front and back. As an expression of its young and fashionable temperament, the Onix Redline’s wheel hubs, grille, exterior mirrors and other prominent parts are black with dazzling red accents.
