Advanced manufacturing techniques are needed to build automotive-grade lidar sensors at mass production levels.
An Automotive News story by Jack Walsworth called “Velodyne rethinks Alpha Puck factory” explored how Velodyne developed an innovative manufacturing system in order to offer the Alpha Puck™ sensor to automakers. The article notes:
“The company created a fully automated production line in San Jose, Calif., that allowed it to handle tight tolerances at the robust volumes needed to support automotive mass production.”
For autonomous vehicle deployments to achieve massive global volumes, automakers need lidar providers they can depend on to produce automotive-grade lidar products at scale.
