Chevrolet Launches Tracker SUV in China

2019-06-05

CHONGQING – The Chevrolet Tracker was launched today in China at Auto Chongqing 2019. The sporty small SUV comes with a stylish exterior and interior, GM’s latest eighth-generation Ecotec engines, and intelligent connectivity and safety features. Six variants, including four Redline models, range in price from RMB 99,900 to RMB 139,900.

“The Tracker small SUV and the Trailblazer compact SUV, which will be launched in the second half of this year, will complement the Equinox midsize SUV in the important SUV segment for Chevrolet,” said Scott Lawson, general director of Chevrolet for SAIC-GM. “The brand’s unique trims such as Redline are giving our customers an even greater variety of choices to cater to their individual needs and preferences.”

Dynamic and Fashionable Design

Targeted at the younger internet generation, the Tracker adopts Chevrolet’s new-generation SUV design language. Its dynamic posture with Z-shaped lines across the body delivers a youthful kinetic energy along with an angular visual effect.

The Tracker also embodies Chevrolet’s “lean muscularity” to help it stand out from the competition. It is characterized by a U-shaped surface on the hood, which adds a sense of power. Double L-shaped LED daytime running lights that incorporate light-guided LED lamps further enhance styling as well as safety. The Tracker’s panoramic skylight contributes to the feeling of spaciousness in the interior. It also conveys the model’s aspirational yet attainable craftsmanship.

Inspired by Chevrolet’s long racing heritage and sporty DNA, the Tracker Redline comes with classic red and black design elements. The familiar Chevrolet front face with a black dual-grille design has a black bow tie and horizontal red accents befitting the Redline name. The side windows are adorned with obsidian black trim, while exterior rearview mirrors have a bright red trim. Sporty 17-inch black aluminum wheels add to the stylish look.

The Tracker is the seventh Chevrolet model in China that includes a Redline trim, joining the Equinox, Cruze, Orlando, all-new Malibu XL, Monza and Onix.

Balance of Power and Efficiency

The Tracker comes with a choice of powertrains. GM’s eighth-generation Ecotec 335T intelligent direct injection turbocharged engine is mated with a new continuously variable transmission (CVT). The Tracker is also available with an eighth-generation Ecotec 325T intelligent direct injection turbocharged engine mated with a smooth six-speed dynamic start/stop shift (DSS) or manual start/stop shift transmission.

The Ecotec 335T engine delivers maximum power of 121 kW and maximum torque of 240 Nm. This enables the Tracker to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds, while providing fuel consumption of 5.7 liters per 100 km. The fuel economy of the Tracker with the Ecotec 325T engine is as low as 5.1 liters per 100 km. Both engines meet the China 6B emission standard.

Advanced Connectivity and Safety

The Tracker is equipped with Chevrolet’s new MyLink+ in-vehicle infotainment system. It not only supports Apple CarPlay, Baidu CarLife and Bluetooth, but also offers smart navigation, entertainment, music, news, real-time weather and traffic through in-vehicle apps.

With the upgraded intelligent speech recognition function, users can tell the vehicle to open the skylight, switch on the air conditioning, turn on the headlights and much more, adding to the driving enjoyment. Customers will receive 24G of free OnStar internet use annually.

The Tracker comes with a range of advanced safety technologies, including Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Pedestrian Collision Mitigation (PCM), Forward Collision Alert (FCA), Following Distance Indicator (FDI), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), a reverse camera and electrically heated exterior rearview mirrors.

The full Tracker lineup is entitled to SAIC-GM’s new quality assurance warranty of eight years or 160,000 km for major components, including the engine and transmission.
