Every week, we feature several career opportunities in our growing Toyota AI Ventures Talent Network. This week, we’re excited to highlight two roles at our portfolio company Apex.AI, which is building safe and certified software for autonomous mobility.

Founded in 2017 by Jan Becker and Dejan Pangercic, Apex.AI envisions a world of seamless and safe autonomous mobility. The company is pursuing this goal of accessibility by supporting the open-source community, and is one of the founding partners of the Autoware Foundation, a non-profit organization that promotes self-driving mobility projects.

With offices in Palo Alto, CA, and Munich, Germany, Apex.AI is actively hiring collaborative, resourceful professionals that want to achieve real-world results in a high-integrity work environment.

Senior Software QA Engineer (Munich, Germany): Apex.AI is looking to grow its engineering team with an opening for a Senior Software QA Engineer who would be responsible for implementing and testing infrastructure for autonomous vehicle software and other mobility systems. This role would be based in Apex.AI’s Munich, Germany office.

As Senior Software QA Engineer, you would be required to research, implement, and test a variety of frameworks (such as unit, integration, fuzzy input, fault injection, SIL, HIL). You would also be responsible for interfacing with the functional safety team to ensure that all testing conforms with ISO 26262 standards, implementing code coverage metrics frameworks (line, function, MC/DC), and integrating additional static code analysis tools to existing workflows. Additional responsibilities include improving the software release process, researching and implementing code quality metrics, and running black-box tests.

To qualify for this role, you’ll need at least three years of prior experience developing QA for production automotive software, and excellent C and C++ programming skills. Apex.AI is looking to hire professionals with a strong work ethic, an appreciation for data-driven decision-making, and the drive needed to implement robust and reliable software solutions.

As this position will interface with multiple teams, some of them international, excellent written and verbal communication skills will also be important.

C++ Software Architect (Palo Alto, CA): Apex.AI has a need for a C++ expert who can help design robust and reliable autonomous driving software, while acting as a hands-on mentor for other engineers in the United States and Germany.

As the company’s C++ Software Architect, you would be building and implementing new features for ROS 2 and the proprietary Apex.OS autonomous driving/robotics software framework. You would also be responsible for architecting new software features and ensuring their seamless integration into the existing system. This role would require you to regularly use your existing skills to solve C++ engineering challenges, while coaching junior developers in software and programming best practices.

The software architect is a senior position and would require a master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, mathematics or a related field, as well as eight or more years in software architecture and complex software systems implementation. To qualify, you would need impressive C++ skills, and experience with architecting and engineering software that considers overall system architecture.

This position is tailor-made for proactive, action-oriented individuals who are enthusiastic about taking on new projects and have a track record of shipping successful software products. You would also need exceptional written and verbal communication skills, a desire to mentor others, and an ability to consider the perspective of Apex.AI customers and their usability demands.
