Kia’s best-selling model was the Sportage SUV, with 37,280 units sold globally in June.
Sales outside of Korea dropped 5.8 percent on year to 193,824 units, partially due to slower sales in key markets resulting from global uncertainties. Sales were led by the Sportage with 34,701 units, followed by the Rio (Pride) and the K3 (Forte) subcompact sedan with 24,529 and 23,753 units, respectively.
Sales in Korea totaled 42,405 units, a 7.8 percent decline compared to June 2018. The Carnival (Sedona) minivan continued its streak as the top-selling model for the 15th consecutive month with 5,909 vehicles, while the K7 (Cadenza) sedan posted 4,284 units as the best seller among passenger vehicles.
Total global sales for the first half of the year recorded 1,353,011 vehicles for a 2.4 percent drop compared to the same period last year.
Kia’s sales are forecast to gain momentum in the upcoming months, with overseas sales supported by the new compact SUV Seltos and the flagship SUV Telluride, and domestic sales rebounding with the launch of the updated K7 (Cadenza).
