GM Canada builds on light duty pick-up and electric vehicle sales growth in Q2

2019-07-03

OSHAWA, Ont. (July 3, 2019) — Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers delivered 77,643 vehicles in the second quarter of 2019, including 53,911 retail sales and 23,732 fleet sales.

Scott Bell, vice president, sales, service and marketing for GM Canada said, “While Q2 sales were in line with the industry, we continued to see growth across our light duty pick-ups, crossovers, SUVs and electric vehicles. Customers are responding to the design, technology and functionality across GM’s line-up of award-winning vehicles.”

Light duty pick-ups increased total sales by +4.3 per cent year-over-year in Q2, driven by the all-new LD Chevrolet Silverado (+17.9 per cent) and GMC Sierra (+31.5 per cent) crew cabs.

“We expect momentum will continue into the third quarter as Chevrolet and GMC’s all-new heavy-duty pick-ups hit Canadian dealerships in July,” said Bell.

Full-size utilities also increased for Chevrolet and GMC with Q2 total sales +2.4 per cent year-over-year.

GM’s fully electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Bolt EV, had its best Q2 ever with total sales +57.7 per cent. Consumer adoption of electric vehicles, particularly in British Columbia and Québec, is steadily gaining traction as federal incentives make it easier to purchase EVs.
