McLaren Automotive shows continued growth in North American Market

  • Appointment of two new executives: Vice President of Sales and Vice President of Finance
  • Opening of newest retailer: McLaren Walnut Creek in Northern California
  • Year-to-date sales through June up 20 percent from 2018 record high
  • Poised for further growth with arrival of the new McLaren GT in Q4

McLaren North America, the largest market for McLaren Automotive, marks continued growth in the region with the appointment of key executives, new retailer locations and on-going sales success.

Joining McLaren North America is Nicolas Brown, Vice President of Sales. After extended stints at both BMW and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, Brown is perfectly poised to lead McLaren North America’s sale efforts as it continues with it’s ambitious Track 25 business plan – with 14 new models and derivatives slated between now and 2025 to join the four already unveiled. Also joining McLaren North America is Derek Meyer as Vice President of Finance. Meyer is back with McLaren Automotive after time spent in management consulting, having previously been with McLaren since it’s launch in North America in 2010 through 2015.

In addition, the announcement of McLaren Walnut Creek in Northern California shows further commitment to the market. The ownership group, NorCal Luxury Car Group, LLC, is no stranger to the McLaren brand, also owning McLaren San Francisco.  McLaren Walnut Creek will operate out of 1425 Parkside Drive, Walnut Creek, CA 94596. On the heels of McLaren San Diego and McLaren Charlotte opening at the end of 2018 – McLaren North America now has 27 total retailers in the US and Canada, all contributing to exceptional sales, with year-to-year sales up 20 percent from a record high recorded in 2018.

“McLaren North America is McLaren’s largest market. Going forward, our goal remains to achieve the objectives within our Track 25 business plan, and the best way to support these ambitious targets is to ensure that we continue to have a strong team and dealership network as we launch new products into the market,” said Tony Joseph, President, McLaren North America. “With Nicolas Brown and Derek Meyer coming on board as Vice President of Sales and Finance respectively, our executive team is completed and extremely strong, and allows us the opportunity to bring on new retailers in very specific and key markets, such as Northern California, to sustain the incredible growth that the brand has seen in North America. To remain successful, it is important that we continue to evolve and adapt to changing market conditions.”

The second half of 2019 will see further expansion for McLaren Automotive as it continues establishing its two newest products, the Sports Series 600LT Spider and the Super Series 720S Spider. The 720S Spider, a ‘no compromise convertible,’ combines the same mind-bending acceleration and exceptional dynamic agility the 720S coupe is known for with the thrill of open-air motoring. The 600LT Spider features all the McLaren Longtail ethos of increased power, reduced weight, optimized aerodynamics, absolute driver engagement, track-focused dynamics and limited availability, and is the most track-focused Sports Series car to-date. Production of the 600LT Spider is limited, and retailers are currently accepting orders.

Joining the line up in Q4 is the newly announced McLaren GT, which made its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. The McLaren GT reimagines the spirit of traditional Grand Touring, offering the engaging drive McLaren is known for, as well as the space, comfort and usability expected of a GT. An important aspect of the McLaren GT is its storage space – a total of 14.8 cubic feet of luggage space is found behind the passenger cabin and is accessed via a front-hinged, full-length glazed tailgate. A golf bag or two pairs of 185cm skis and boots, as well as luggage can be carried with ease, while a further 5.3 cubic feet of storage in the front means the new McLaren GT can accommodate a total of 20.1 cubic feet.

Though comfort, space and usability are hallmarks of Grand Touring, no McLaren would be complete without ample performance. The McLaren GT features a 612bhp 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 mated to a 7-speed SSG transmission that delivers linear, seamless and relentless acceleration. The performance statistics speak for themselves: 0-60mph in 3.1 seconds, while 0-124mph is dispatched in 9.0 seconds. One of the most defining elements of the new McLaren GT – and arguably what will cement its position as the new segment leader – is its dynamic prowess. The suspension, steering and brakes are all bespoke to the car and are optimized to provide an outstanding Grand Touring drive experience with inherent balance, responsiveness and precision, but with better ride comfort than any other McLaren.

The new McLaren GT is expected to arrive in North America in October, and retailers are currently accepting orders with prices starting from $210,000 (USD). For more information visit cars.mclaren.com.

About McLaren Automotive:
McLaren Automotive is a creator of luxury, high-performance sportscars and supercars. Every vehicle is hand-assembled at the McLaren Production Centre (MPC) in Woking, Surrey, England.

Launched in 2010, the company is now the largest part of the McLaren Group.

The company has defined product families: Sports Series, Super Series, Ultimate Series and Motorsport which are retailed through over 80 retailers in more than 30 markets around the world.

McLaren is a pioneer that continuously pushes the boundaries. In 1981, it introduced lightweight and strong carbon fibre chassis into Formula 1 with the McLaren MP4/1. Then in 1993  it designed and built the McLaren F1 road car – the company has not built a car without a carbon fibre chassis since. As part of the Ultimate Series, McLaren was the first to deliver a hybrid hypercar, the McLaren P1™.

Announced at Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2018, the company’s Track25 business plan will see it invest £1.2billion in research and development to deliver 18 new cars or derivatives by the end of 2025.

In 2018, the company launched the 600LT and the first two cars of Track25, the McLaren Speedtail, the next Ultimate Series, and McLaren’s first ever Hyper-GT, and 720S Spider. It also opened a new £50m McLaren Composites Technology Centre in the Sheffield region in the North of England that will see it produce the next generation of lightweight carbon fibre ‘tubs’ that are at the heart of all McLaren cars.

2019 saw McLaren launch the 600LT Spider confirmed as the third car of Track25, with a new GT car announced and the previously-confirmed track-only Senna GTR unveiled.

To support the development, engineering and manufacture of its range of innovative sportscars and supercars, McLaren Automotive partners with world leading companies to provide specialist expertise, technology and solutions. These include Richard Mille, Pirelli, Dell Technologies, Ashurst, AkzoNobel and OnePlus.

McLaren Group:
The McLaren Group is a global leader in luxury automotive and technology and comprises three businesses: Automotive, Racing and Applied Technologies.
