A year has already passed since the death of Sergio Marchionne. On 25 July, the disappearance of the CEO of FCA, expired in a Swiss clinic, was announced.

Following a surgical operation. Worker until the last, a month before dying he had delivered to the Carabinieri a prepared Jeep Wrangler, Marchionne had succeeded in bringing his company to zero debt. However, a fundamental element was still missing, namely to find a partner for a new merger so as to create a group capable of producing over 8 million vehicles a year.

The importance of joining forces

The lack of agreement between Renault and Fca, despite not yet being said the end word, reported the group directed by Mike Manley in search of a partner in depth. The mission is clear: to find an ally equipped with the necessary technologies to develop the long list of models announced last June by the late Marchionne and subsequently confirmed by his successor. If the Renault hypothesis, and the possible entry into the Alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi, would have finally made available the platforms necessary for the launch of the new models, now the situation becomes more complex. After the closure by Renault, mainly due to the intervention of the French State, now John Elkann will have to return to sound out the possible builders interested in the Italian-American group. And here the Psa and Hyundai hypotheses are reopened, the latter on the map with great potential at a global level starting from technologies on the front of electrification and autonomous driving.
