The sixth act of Opel Corsa begins. Introduced in 1982, the small Corsa was a very successful international car. From the production line, over 13.6 million units were released and now it is time to renew. With the world premiere of the new Opel Corsa at the Frankfurt International Motor Show 2019 (12 to 22 September), the sixth act in the history of this very successful small car begins. But we have already had the opportunity to see it and to know its characteristics. In fact, the new generation will be equipped with numerous latest-generation technologies and equipped with engines capable of meeting future legal requirements. Last but not least, Corsa will also be available for the first time in an electric version.


2019 Opel Corsa

Practical and light A model that has an important historical past but which has to deal with other very well-established cars on the B-segment market and which have been updated just this year: Renault Clio and Peugeot 208.Long 4.06 meters, Corsa hosts on board five passengers and retains exemplary handling, a clear layout of the controls and maximum practicality. The roof line resembles that of a coupe and is 48 mm lower than the previous version, without any reduction in the internal height. The driver’s sitting position is 28 mm lower and the lowering of the center of gravity favors easy handling and improves driving performance. The changes also affect the weight with a reduction of 108 kg compared to the previous version, managing to stay under the 1000kg threshold, they are 980kg to be exact. There are four versions: the basic version with already good equipment such as active cruise control, lane maintenance system and speed limit recognition. Then there is the Edition version, the Elegance and, for a sporty DNA, the Gs Line.

The active Cruise Control is standard. The last generation of the small German, which will be presented as a world preview at this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, is also available for the first time in an electric battery version for everyone. A real innovation are the IntelliLux Led matrix active front headlights that do not dazzle other drivers in the opposite direction and that Opel brings for the first time in the small segment. The car also features numerous cutting-edge driver assistance systems, such as the accident alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian recognition and the active radar-based Cruise Control, which make driving safer and more relaxed. Finally, driver assistance systems also recognize road signs. From the hi-tech on-board point of view, infotainment systems such as the Multimedia Radio or Multimedia Navi with 7-inch color touch screen and the top of Multimedia Navi Pro range with 10-inch touch screen. In addition, the Opel Corsa also offers the new “Opel Connect” telematic service, which includes a live navigator with real-time traffic information and fuel price information, a direct link to assistance in the event of a fault and a call emergency (eCall).

Engines: 136 horsepower electric As for the engines, the first to arrive on the market only petrol and diesel with power between 75 and 130 hp. These are also available with the eight-speed automatic transmission. The battery-powered electric version has a 100 kW engine (136 hp) with a torque of 260 Nm. The starting 0-100 covers it in just 8.1 seconds. According to the manufacturer, the autonomy is about 330 km (Wltp cycle). The price for the Edition 5-door version with the 1.2-liter 75 hp is just over 12 thousand euros, thanks to the promotion for the scrapping of a car over 10 years and up to 30 September.
