IG Metall demands 8.5 percent more for temporary workers

The IG Metall demands 8.5 percent more money for the employees in temporary employment and improvements in the collective bargaining agreements, such as vacation and annual special payments. This has been decided by the IG Metall Executive Board on the recommendation of the elected collective bargaining committee. The demand is coordinated within the DGB trade unions. On September 17, then start the collective bargaining between the DGB collective bargaining collective agency and the employers’ associations in the temporary work iGZ and BAP. The collective agreements affect approximately 98 percent of the leased employees nationwide.

With the above-average increase in pay, IG Metall wants to achieve a clear gap between lower tariffs and minimum wages. The fee group 1 in the temporary work is currently at 9.79 euros (West) and 9.49 euros (East).

Annual special payment, plus for members, more holidays

In addition to the increase in fees, the IG Metall demands improvements to the so-called collective bargaining agreements, in which, for example, working hours and holidays are regulated. The IG Metall wants, for example, collectively secured annual special payments – Christmas and holiday money – in the amount of a monthly salary. Part of it is to go exclusively to union members.

According to the IG Metall, the leased employees are to receive more leave in the future. Currently, temporary employees receive just 24 working days in the first year of employment.

IG Metall also demands that temporary workers receive at least the same supplements for night work, Sunday work and public holidays as the regular employees in their customer base.

DGB unions have interviewed temporary workers

The start of the tariff movement was a survey of the borrowers. Over the last few months, the DGB unions have questioned thousands of temporary workers in the factories about which issues are particularly important to them. The result: money is an absolute priority for them: more than three-quarters say that increasing their hourly pay is very important to them. Almost as many find higher one-time payments very important.

The current wage tariff agreements with iGZ and BAP still run until 31 December 2019. Then the peace obligation ends.
