GM Canada builds on crossover, SUV and light duty pickup sales growth in Q3

2019-10-01

OSHAWA, Ont. (October 1, 2019) — Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers delivered 70,706 vehicles in the third quarter of 2019, including 54,898 retail sales and 15,808 fleet sales.

“We’re continuing to build momentum on the products customers want,” said Sandor Piszar, vice president, sales, service and marketing, GM Canada. “With innovative new vehicles on the horizon and the design, technology and functionality available today across our entire product portfolio, we’re poised for success in a shifting consumer landscape.”

According to DesRosiers Automotive Consultants “Top 10 August 2019” report, passenger car sales continue to decline year-to-date across the industry while pickups, subcompact, compact luxury and compact SUVs gain traction. GM has one of the strongest and newest product lineups in the industry to align with this shift in consumer preference with several new products coming in 2019 and 2020 including the all-new Chevrolet Trailblazer, Buick Encore GX,  Cadillac CT4 and Cadillac XT6.

Chevrolet saw growth in the third quarter with total sales of the Chevrolet Trax up 74.1 percent, Chevrolet Traverse up 12.5 per cent, and the Chevrolet Tahoe up 27.9 percent. The Chevrolet Bolt EV, offering 417-kilometres of range in 2020, is up 124.7 per cent. The latest member of the Chevrolet SUV family, the Chevrolet Blazer, arrived on dealer lots in the second quarter of 2019 and sales have steadily gained traction in Q3.

GM’s midsized trucks continue to lead their segment in sales volume for the quarter and calendar year-to-date with the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon, while light-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra crew cabs saw an increase of 14.7 per cent in total sales for Q3. Excitement is also building for GM’s heavy-duty trucks which hit dealerships this fall and are expected to continue performing well into the next quarter.

Buick also saw gains with Buick Envision total sales up 37.8 per cent for the third quarter.

Cadillac crossover total sales are up 29.8 per cent in the third quarter for the XT4, XT5 and all-new XT6 combined.
