2019-10-10

SHANGHAI – General Motors’ joint ventures delivered 689,531 vehicles in China in the third quarter. Sales declined in the midst of the continued soft vehicle market.

GM is in the process of introducing a record of about 20 new and refreshed models in China this year with an expanded and improved product mix. GM has increased its focus on midsize/large SUVs and luxury vehicles to keep up with strong demand in these segments by launching seven new models in the past three months and unveiling three models that are planned for launch in the fourth quarter.

The company is also making steady progress toward its vision of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion in China.

Baojun’s all-electric siblings, the E100 and E200, went on sale nationwide in the third quarter after becoming popular choices in the cities where they were previously sold. The VELITE 6, the first all-electric model from Buick, will soon launch variants with an increased electric driving range of 410 km.

As a key initiative for developing personal mobility solutions in China for China, GM announced in July a strategic partnership with the China Intelligent Connected Vehicle National Level Innovation Center, with the aim of helping build a dynamic intelligent connected vehicle ecosystem in China and making an industry-wide impact.

GM’s all-new digital vehicle platform – the enabler of its advanced technologies, including electrification, connectivity and autonomous driving – will debut soon in China on the Cadillac CT5 and will gradually be rolled out across GM’s brands.

Cadillac

Cadillac had a record third quarter, with sales increasing 11% from a year earlier to 51,049 units.

The XT4 compact luxury SUV and XT5 midsize luxury SUV sustained their strong performance, as sales topped 14,000 units and 13,000 units, respectively.
The three-row XT6 large luxury SUV was launched in July, joining the XT4 and XT5 to strengthen Cadillac’s presence in the steadily growing luxury SUV segment.

Buick

Buick sales totaled 199,688 units.
Demand for the brand’s best-selling model, the Excelle GT sedan, grew 20% on a year-on-year basis to nearly 74,000 units.
The performance of the GL8 MPV family remained strong, with sales growing 24% from a year earlier to about 45,000 units.
Deliveries of the Regal sedan exceeded 33,000 units, up 25% on a year-on-year basis.
The all-new Encore small SUV and Encore GX compact SUV were launched in July. The all-new Enclave large SUV will be introduced in the fourth quarter to solidify the brand’s SUV lineup.

The Monza compact sedan – launched in the first quarter – became the brand’s best seller, on sales of about 43,000 units.
Sales of the Malibu XL flagship sedan jumped 32%, topping 17,000 units.
With its growing focus on SUVs, Chevrolet launched the Tracker followed by the Trailblazer in September and will unveil a large SUV later in 2019.

Baojun

Baojun deliveries totaled 122,900 units.
The E100 and E200 electric vehicles had sales of more than 12,000 units after becoming available nationwide.
The brand also continued its pivot toward a youthful, connected and intelligent direction, with the addition of the RM-5 MPV and RC-6 sedan in September and the addition of the RS-3 small sporty SUV in October.

Wuling

Wuling sold 219,086 units, sustaining its leadership in the mini-commercial vehicle segment.
The Hong Guang MPV family, Wuling’s most popular nameplate, is adding the all-new Hong Guang PLUS featuring a larger interior this month.
