@Hyundai: Choice of the Millions, HMG’s Connected Car service

Securing 10 million global connected car service users by 2022 was one of the key strategic goals announced by HMG at the CES 2019 held in January 2019. HMG feels confident about achieving this goal because it has already managed to secure over one million users in South Korea with more and more people signing up for the service all the time.

How much do you rely on connected car services?

The number of customers signed up for HMG’s connected car services, which are Hyundai BlueLink, Kia UVO and Genesis GCS, is increasing at a significant rate. HMG expects to secure over 10 million subscribers by the end of 2022 in markets including South Korea, North America, India and Europe.

Automotive experts predict that the connected car market will grow as related technologies including wireless communications and IoT advances. According to Accenture PLC, a global consulting company, only 35% of new cars sold were equipped with low level connected car technologies such as telematics and phone connectivity 2016. But it expects all cars sold in 2025 will be equipped with advanced connected car systems.

A recent report by the Mckinsey Company estimated that around 30 billion USD in revenue was generated by automakers and IT companies from sales of connected car services. Mckinsey expects the sales of connected car services to continue to rise and to reach 1,500 billion USD by 2030.

Finding the Best Route with Real-Time Traffic Information

Navigation systems have increasingly become a standard feature for automobiles over the last decade. Drivers no longer need to flip through paper maps but can enter a destination on screen and simply follow the directions. Furthermore, the navigation system which used to sit separately on the dashboard has now moved into the center fascia as an important part of the cabin interior.

As the navigation system advanced, it became increasingly necessary to link the system to the telecommunication network. HMG decided to equip its products with a wireless telecommunication device and thereby launched its first connected car service.

HMG created a dedicated team, Hyundai Mnsoft, Inc. to ensure that system could provide the most accurate direction possible. The team has continually been improving the navigation service by incorporating a wide range of data, including real time traffic information. Are you still relying on a smartphone navigation app? Try HMG’s latest navigation system, it will help you reach your destination even faster.

Navigation with real-time traffic information

The system provides the quickest route thanks to its access to real-time traffic information. When the driver inputs the destination, the Genesis Connected Services Center analyzes the data including real-time traffic information to provide the fastest route. Lots of detailed information, including traffic flow for every turn, is analyzed. The amount of data processed by HMG’s navigation system for routing far exceeds that of even the most popular navigation apps available.

While many navigation apps simply assume that traffic flow will match a similar time period in the past, the HMG’s system analyzes a vast amount of data to make a more accurate prediction. This is the secret behind how HMG navigation finds a faster route than the smartphone-based apps.

Setting your destination before getting into the car

There are two ways to enter your destination, either by entering it on the navigation screen in the car or setting it via a mobile app. You can open up the connected car service app, enter your destination, choose between ‘recommended’ and ‘fastest’ route and tap the ‘Send’ button to set your destination in the car. When you start your car, the navigation system is ready to guide you to the destination you set through your app. The system can suggest when you should start your journey based on the desired time of arrival that you have entered. The app helps you prepare for your journey in a more efficient manner before getting into the car.

Share my car location

HMG’s connected navigation system allows you to share your location in real-time by simply tapping on the button and entering the mobile phone number of the recipients you wish to send the link to. The recipient can find out the exact location of your car, your current speed of travel and your expected arrival time simply by opening the link. The service can be used to check the location of people who are traveling together in different cars and coordinate where to meet and how to get there. Simply send the link to the BlueLink number of the car you need to coordinate with and the location and speed of your car will be shown on the screen of the other car, eliminating any need for phone calls or texting.
*BlueLink number: Communication ID number assigned to your car which can be found on the configuration screen

Taking Control of Your Car Wherever You Are Remote Vehicle Control

You can conveniently control many features of your cars wherever you are

In the past, our interaction with automobiles has been more analogue than digital. However, the industrial trend is changing fast with the rise of smartphones. People can now access almost all available information and doing so has become a norm. In other words, having a remote control and access has become the norm.

Drivers are increasingly expecting to experience a level of convenience from their car beyond just the ease of transport. In response to this, HMG launched the connected car service which sets the foundation for this growing desire for connectivity. One such connected car service is remote vehicle control via a smartphone which has set a new benchmark in the convenience that vehicle owners can expect to enjoy.

Vehicle status check

It is easy to check the status of a car using the connected car service app. The app provides various information including whether the engine is turned on, which door is open, the cabin temperature setting if the climate control system is turned on and heating or ventilation settings for each seat. It also alerts the driver with a popup message if any door or the trunk remains open when the car is parked and the engine is turned off.
*Vehicle status notification function must be activated in the configuration menu.

Remote start and door/ window control

Getting into a stuffy or freezing car that has been parked in the scorching sun or in freezing cold weather can be a major pain for drivers. Fortunately, the connected car service app can help alleviate this problem. Drivers can now start the engine and turn on the A/C or heater before entering their car. The heated/ventilated seat can also be activated and adjusted, as well as the defrosters, for maximum comfort and convenience.
*Maximum duration of remote activation is 10 minutes
*Heated/ventilated seat control is available for vehicles equipped with these features.

Smartwatch link

You can also start and stop the engine, lock/unlock doors and check vehicle status using your smartwatches such as Apple watch or Galaxy watch. Simply download the connected car service app on your smartphone and activate the smartphone link in the configuration menu.
*Apps are available on the Apple Appstore or Google Playstore
