Crunchy turns, various engines, new equipment lines and culinary resources: Journalists and Opel dealers test the sixth generation of Corsa on the Croatian coast.

“On the winding roads the Corsa plays its talents perfectly.”

Thomas Wanke, Senior Development Engineer of the sixth generation Corsa

Invite 650 journalists from over 30 countries to the Croatian Adriatic coast and provide them with different versions of the new Opel Corsa with different engines and new equipment lines. Even the ingredients of the 17-day press presentation of the small Rüsselsheimer sound like a promising recipe.

The curvy streets between Split and Šibenik serve as salt in the soup. “There the car can perfectly play out its enormous driving dynamics and agility,” says Thomas Wanke, chief development engineer of the sixth Corsa generation. “However, the focus is also on the comfort range, the assistance systems and the new engine range – it all depends on the right mix.”

The first tastings were correspondingly positive, which was also reflected in the media response. The conclusion of auto, motor und sport is something like: “The new is peppy, chic, slim and trendy. With modern technology, without nonsense. Opel halt. “The car image finds the new” in two ways. First, he drives sportier AND more comfortable than its predecessor, second, he goes through as the right Opel. “(See also press)

Parked close to the water: For this photo, the new Corsa rests on the harbor edge in Marina Kaštela.

For those who prefer a more comfortable ride, the new Corsa Elegance, painted gray, features a 1.2-liter turbo and six-speed manual transmission, garnished with leather seats with a massage function, a six-way adjustable passenger seat, chrome trim and high-quality decorative stitching. In white, the newcomer is also at the start with a 1.5 liter diesel engine. “For the eight-speed automatic, we get a lot of praise,” Wanke continues. “It is unique in the segment, changes the gears very quietly and ensures a high driving dynamics. And thanks to the shift paddles, the driver can shift manually. “

The design emphasizes the dynamic gusto of the newcomer, which, with a Cd value of 0.29, is one of the most aerodynamic models in its class. “The coupé-like roofline and the compact exterior dimensions underline the sporty appearance,” says Carsten Aengenheyster, Exterior Chief Designer. “In addition, the driver sits lower than before and the vehicle’s center of gravity is lower.”

Just as positive is the consistent lightweight construction in the weight – after all, the new brings in its lightest variant only 980 kilograms on the scales, and thus 108 kilograms less than its predecessor. Thomas Wanke: “That’s another reason why the Corsa is so agile and dynamic – and thanks to the new engine range, we have also significantly reduced fuel consumption.”

Coupé-like roofline, compact exterior dimensions: design elements that underline the sporty appearance of the new Corsa.

Full of curves: On the roads on the Croatian coast, the new Corsa can play its talents perfectly.

“During the night driving towards Šibenik, the strengths of the Matrix light come into their own.”

Ingolf Schneider, Head of Lighting Technology

The glare-free IntelliLux LED® Matrix light is one of the main ingredients that the Corsa introduces into the small car segment. “This shows that we are once again democratizing technologies on the Corsa,” says Ingolf Schneider, Head of Lighting Technology. “During the night driving towards Šibenik, the strengths of the system come into their own. That’s why we’ve arranged the press conferences so that our guests drive to the hotel after dusk. “

Among the guests – in addition to representatives from the TV, print and social media sectors – were already 90 Opel dealers from more than 20 markets, including those recently awarded by Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller “Dealer of the Year”,

As Opel brand ambassadors were also the two actors Jannis Niewöhner and Pasquale Aleardi on site. Niewöhner is currently one of the top-class stars in the German scene and has already received several awards at the age of 27, such as the Bavarian Newcomer Award and the Grimme Prize. The 48-year-old Aleardi has demonstrated his versatility in more than 80 TV and cinema productions. Currently, the Swiss shines on the cinema screens in the musical adaptation “I’ve never been to New York”.

New equipment line: The interior of the GS Line includes sports seats for driver and front passenger, aluminum sports pedals, a black headliner and red accents on the dashboard.

After the arrival at Trogir airport, guests will arrive in Marina Kaštela bay, just outside Split, until next Friday (29 November). In the Spinnacker restaurant, the experts around Thomas Wanke give the most important information about the Corsa before the gifts of the sea come to the table – seafood salad, tuna pate and sea bass.

There are also real mineral resources on the menu: risotto with mushrooms and panna cotta with forest fruits. The wind tastes pleasantly salty. It depends on the right mix.

In numbers

The new Corsa GS Line drives with an exclusive for the GS Line offered 96 kW / 130 hp 1.2-liter turbo with eight-speed automatic. With the top-of-the-line petrol engine it is up to 208 km / h fast and spurting in 8.7 seconds from zero to 100 km / h. The engine packs powerfully with a maximum torque of up to 230 Newton meters and the price starts at 19,880 euros (UPE including VAT).

The itinerary: After arriving at the airport in Trogir, we will go to the press conference in the restaurant Spinnaker Marina Kaštela, then to the hotel D-Resort near Šibenik and the next morning via Primošten back to Trogir.
