@FCA: Statement: Bushings

Statement: Bushings

November 27, 2019 , Auburn Hills, Mich. – FCA US LLC is recalling an estimated 51,788 cars in the U.S. to replace their shift-cable bushings.

Feedback from the field prompted an FCA investigation that discovered certain bushings may, subject to heat and humidity exposure, degrade over time. Should this occur, a vehicle’s shift cable may separate from its transmission linkage, disrupting shifter function.

FCA is aware of three minor accidents that were potentially related, but the Company is unaware of any potentially related injuries.

If the condition occurs, customers may notice looser shifter movement. However, gear-selection as indicated in the instrument cluster will always be correct.

Customers are advised to heed owner’s manual instructions that urge regular parking-brake use.

The recall is limited to 2012-2013 Fiat 500 mini-compact cars. Service will be provided free of charge and affected customers will be notified accordingly; those with questions or concerns may call 1-800-853-1403.

Additional vehicles will be subject to recall in Canada (est. 10,627), Mexico (est. 3,520) and certain market outside North America (est. 6,826)
