New Delhi: Automotive parts supplier Mahle has increased its stake to 90 per cent in its former 50:50 joint venture in India, Mahle Electric Drives India (MEDI). The company is aiming to locally produce electric drive systems for the Indian market with a target to grab a significant chunk in the EV component segment of the country.

In a release, the company has informed that it is aiming to start production of electric drive systems in India by April 2020 with focus on FAME II guidelines.

Located in Coimbatore, Mahle’s plant in India will initially manufacture high capacity motors and controllers for electric two and three-wheelers, informed the brand in a release.

Initially the auto parts manufacturer will offer 48V PMSM motors and controllers in the range from 4 to 18 Kilowatts. Subsequently it will expand the range to cater to high voltage high capacity motors for hybrid cars as well.

Mahle has also informed that it will showcase the components and new technology at upcoming Auto Expo 2020.
