Slight decrease in February for the transfers of ownership of cars, which net of minivoltures (temporary transfers in the name of the dealer pending resale to the end customer) recorded a decrease of 0.9% at national level compared to the same month of 2019. For every 100 new cars in Italy, 176 of them were sold second-hand in February and as many in the first two months of the year. The monthly balance sheet for February, however, should be noted, highlights a clear divergence between the trend of used vehicles in the regions of Northern Italy (-1.9%) and in those of the Center (+ 2.1%) and of the South and Islands ( + 2.6%).

In February the drop in ownership of diesel cars (-6.5% compared to February 2019), confirmed for the first time in January, was confirmed, which further reduced their share of the total by about three percentage points (from 51.1% in 2019 to 48.3% in 2020). Similar discourse for minivoltures: monthly contraction of 5.9% for diesel compared to 8% growth for petrol cars. Finally, a positive trend for the market for hybrid and electric used cars (even though they are still small shares that do not reach 1%): transfers of hybrid diesel cars (383 units) increased by sixfold in February; the number of changes in hybrid gasoline cars rose by 49.5% (2,303 units) and electric cars (64 units) by 64.8%.

The market for second-hand motorcycles goes against the trend with the four-wheelers: the changes in ownership of the two-wheelers, net of minivoltures, led to a monthly increase of 10.6% in February.

In the first two months of the year, a decrease of 4% was observed for the four wheels and 2.8% for all vehicles. On the other hand, the two wheels filed a 7.5% increase in the first two months of 2020.

The data are reported in the latest monthly “Auto-Trend” bulletin, the statistical analysis carried out by the Automobile Club of Italy on the PRA data, available on the website www.aci.it

Radiation of passenger cars slowed slightly in February, registering a negative monthly variation of 0.4%. The unit replacement rate in February was 0.89 (89 cars were removed per 100 cars registered) and 0.87 in the first two months of the year. On the contrary, a positive balance for motorcycle radiations that closed the month of February grew by 3.4% compared to the same month in 2019.

In the first two months of the year, radiation filed a total drop of 6.1% for cars, 5.6% for motorcycles and 5.9% for all vehicles.
