Genesis announced two wins in J.D. Power’s 2020 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) and the Initial Quality Study(IQS), proving its quality and durability.
Among the 32 automakers, Genesis announced the win in J.D. Power’s 2020 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS).
The two studies that J.D. Power conducts include the Vehicle Dependability Study(VDS), in which Genesis ranked #1, and the Initial Quality Study(IQS). VDS is designed to provide manufacturers with information to facilitate the identification of problems and drive product improvement. It also helps consumers to choose the right car through the information with clarity.
The VDS measures almost 177 categories of problems of three-year-old vehicles, such as driving experience, engine/transmission and Audio, Communication, Entertainment and Navigation.
The annual study ranks auto manufacturers and their products by problems per one hundred vehicles (PP100). The car with the lowest level of problems wins the respective category. Genesis won overall by achieving less than one problem per vehicle (89 PP100) during the past 12 months by original owners of their three-year-old vehicles, right after it debuted back in August 2016.
The 2020 study was fielded from July 2016 through February 2017. The responses are from 36,555 vehicles of 222 models, manufactured by 32 automakers including 13 premium brands. The 89 points that Genesis gained is the best score since 2015 in which the judges got much pickier. Lexus, who was the best last year, was dragged to the second this year after gaining 100 points. This is followed by the other premium brands – Porsche(4th/104 points), Lincoln(7th/119 points), BMW(8th/123 points), Caddilac(12th/131 points).
Genesis ranked No.1 overall and scored a win with its G80 in the Midsize Premium Car Segment. It recorded a close win over Audi A6 and A7, proving that it provides the best quality to consumers in the U.S. The Midsize Premium Car Segment is the toughest one in the whole auto market in the U.S, and this win would advertise its existence.
Genesis also ranked as the highest premium brand in J.D. Power’s U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS). J.D. Power measures initial quality by the number of problems owners experience per 100 vehicles (PP100) during the first 90 days of ownership.
In 2019, Genesis took the top spot in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study for the third consecutive year since its initial debut in 2017. And in 2019 Genesis announced two wins in J.D. Power’s 2020 Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS). The Korean luxury brand ranked #1 overall and scored a win with its G80 in the Midsize Premium Car Segment.
The list of awards received by Genesis shows its high-end quality. Genesis ranked #1 in Consumer Reports’ Annual Ranking of Automotive Brands 2018 and AUTOPACIFIC® Top New Vehicle Satisfaction Award. Speaking of G70, it won 2019 Motor Trend Car of the Year and 2019 NORTH AMERICAN CAR OF THE YEAR™. G80 won 2018 Residual Value Awards in the U.S. from Automotive Lease Guide (ALG) in premium full-size vehicle segment, and 2019 AutoWeb.com Best Luxury Car. G90 won the 2017 Consumer Guide® Automotive Best Buy Award and 2017/2018 AUTOPACIFIC® Top New Vehicle Satisfaction Award.
Genesis has been proving its quality to be a premium brand for three years. Being ranked #1 in both IQS and VDS indeed not only strengthens the brand positioning but also highlights its achievement and improvement. The dependability of a vehicle is an important factor in the used car market, so Genesis is likely to become even more competitive in the premium market in the U.S.
