SHANGHAI — Buick today announced the expansion of its Excelle GT family sedan portfolio in China with the addition of two new variants featuring an Ecotec 1.5L DVVT engine that offers greater fuel efficiency and smoother handling.

“Buick is once again addressing our customers’ evolving needs by growing the lineup of one of our most popular models,” said Molly Peck, executive director of Buick Sales and Marketing at SAIC-GM. “With the new Excelle GT Legacy models, Buick is offering a wider range of powertrain solutions to those looking for a stylish and affordable sedan.”

Leveraging GM’s global resources and local capability, the 1.5L DVVT four-cylinder engine in the Excelle GT Legacy is the newest member of GM’s popular Ecotec engine family. It produces maximum power of 83 kW/6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 141 Nm/4,400 rpm.

Equipped with the intelligent start-stop function and paired with a six-speed DSS transmission, it has fuel consumption of 5.9 liters/100 km and meets the China 6 B emission standard. Customers of the two new variants will enjoy an eight-year or 160,000-km warranty for major engine and transmission parts.

The two Excelle GT Legacy variants will be sold alongside the current 18T and 15T models featuring 1.3T and 1.0T dual injection turbocharged engines.

To meet the demand of younger buyers for enhanced connectivity, the Excelle GT Legacy models come with Buick’s eConnect technology. It provides cloud-based voice activation, facial recognition and OnStar full-time online assistance, and supports over-the-air (OTA) remote upgrades. Customers of the Elite version will receive 100G of free OnStar 4G LTE data service every year.

The new Excelle GT Legacy models are also available with a suite of standard and optional safety features. They include the Bosch Electronic Stability Program, Emergency Braking Warning and Hill Start Assist.

The two Buick Excelle GT Legacy models are available in four exterior colors and priced at RMB 119,900 and RMB 125,900.

Customers can receive favorable financing, including zero down payment and a monthly installment as low as RMB 999 for the first year. Those who make a 50% down payment can receive a zero-interest loan for two years.

The Buick Excelle GT has been among the most popular family sedans in China, with nearly 1.5 million sold since its introduction in 2015.
